The book is divided into three parts. The first part, "War," covers Bramall's experiences in the Second World War and the Korean War. Bramall served in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War, and he saw action in North Africa, Italy, and Burma. He was awarded the Military Cross for his gallantry in action. In the Korean War, Bramall commanded the 1st Royal Tank Regiment.

The second part of the book, "Peace," covers Bramall's experiences as Chief of the General Staff of the British Army from 1982 to 1985. During his tenure, Bramall oversaw the British Army's response to the Falklands War. He also played a key role in the development of NATO's strategy for the defense of Western Europe.

The third part of the book, "The Future of Warfare," contains Bramall's views on the future of warfare. Bramall argues that the future of warfare will be characterized by increased use of technology and the blurring of the lines between war and peace. He also warns that the world is entering a period of increased instability and that the risk of conflict is growing.

The Bramall Papers is an essential reading for anyone interested in military history, strategy, or international relations. Bramall is one of the most respected military leaders of his generation, and his insights into the nature of war and peace are invaluable.
